Now in its 24th year, the Highlands and Islands Young Piper of the year competition is organised and run by Comann Piobaireachd Uibhist & Bharraidh.  This year’s winner was Robert Gibb (pictured) originally from Dumfries, who finished first place in the ceòl mor and strathspey and reel sections.  The quality of the entries for the competition was highly praised by the judges, as well as the high number of local competitors who took part.  Comann Piobaireachd Uibhist & Bharraidh need to fund accommodation and travel expenses for the visiting judges and so the donation of £500 from the Making a Difference Locally fund went towards covering these costs.  The competition takes place in Benbecula in July each year in the same week as the North Uist and South Uist Highland games.  For more information about the competition please contact MacLennans Supermarket and we will pass your enquiry on to a member of the committee.
