Donation to The Island Dance Crew, £250

09/01/14 Go Back

Lorna Laird's Irish Dance School (known as The Island Dance Crew) is run by volunteers and is open to boys and girls from 4 to 16 years.  Dancing encourages children to build their confidence, social skills and to develop a healthier lifestyle. The fees paid by the pupils all go towards Hall Hire costs with anything left over going either towards reducing costs to the pupils when going away to competitions, or bringing over another teacher to do workshops with the girls. Because of this, the Dance School is very reliant on the generosity of local businesses such as MacLennans Supermarket, with their 'Making A Difference Locally' fund. Earlier this year the fund gave a donation to the Dance School which helped to buy Beginner's Dance Costumes of black skirts and white polo shirts allowing the dance school to customise the polo shirts with school's logo and the skirts with Celtic designs. These were essential when some of the School went away to Livingstone, Glasgow to the All Scotland Competition in March.

The Irish Dance School runs classes on Wednesday evenings at Balivanich Hall and on Saturday mornings at Liniclate School.
