Donation to Uist Camanachd, £500

Uist Camanachd is a volunteer group running a Shinty development programme for children from 8 to 17 years. The group meets on Saturdays from 2-3pm at Sgoil Lionacleit for training and practise games and is open to children from throughout the Uists. We provide access to coaching and tuition which develops excellent teamwork and gives an opportunity to improve fitness in a progressive and culturally important sport. With no other teams on the island to play against competitively, the club has travelled to play against much more experienced teams and have performed well. The group is run by a group of committed volunteers and are solely dependent on fundraising to pay coaching fees, pitch and hall hire, travel to matches as well as equipment.

A donation of £500 was made from MacLennans MADL fund which was gratefully received by Fiona Ballantyne of Uist Camanachd.  The funds will be used to support a Primary age group trip (possibly a match either against Harris or Skye primaries). Fiona commented that it’s always difficult to get funding for travel so this will be invaluable to allow them to take the primaries on a trip.  She told us that In June the Senior team travelled to play at Scourie near Kinlochbervie, for the Far North Shinty 6's tournament. They played very well improving with each match. All in all a great experience for them to play against squads that play competitive shinty on a regular basis.
